Content is the key
design determinant for any web site. This is particularly true for entertainment-oriented
sites. You will have a lot of competition for the erotic entertainment
dollar. So it is important to keep your site fresh and exciting; and the
only way to do this is to update your content as frequently as possible.
Your site will fail
if it is not exciting and engaging, in short it should reach out and grab
your visitors. It must be constructed in a manner that will not tax the
patience of the visitors to your site. You want your site to be easy to
comprehend, easy to navigate, and speak directly to the desires and interests
of your prospective customers else you risk losing them to one of the
many competitor sites.
There are three ways
of securing quality content. You can try to use free content providers
for images and in some cases copy. Generally speaking this is not a preferred
route. You can develop your own copy and images, but in many instances
individuals will not have the means or capability to do this. You can
buy content from one of the many content providers on the web; or you
can subcontract with independent artists, photographers, writers, to prepare
custom content for your site. Whatever the approach, the main point is
that your content must be evocative and stimulate the viewer.
The nature of the
content you offer must be reflected in every aspect of your site. This
is the most effective way to implement your market strategy, and communicate
your brand and image. The animation you use, if you use animation, or
similar visual methods. Your logos; the icons you select; the aesthetics
of your site's background; the banners you use to promote the site; age
validation and warning pages; subscriber's/member's pages; customer support/FAQ
pages; tour/preview pages; subscription and payment pages, all should
be coordinated and harmonized with your general site theme.
It might be helpful
to critique the web sites of existing erotic enterprises; this way you
can get ideas of what to do and what not to do. It is also useful to consider
storyboarding your design before jumping right into the development of
the site. As with the content, you have the option of doing the design
and development of your site yourself/in-house, or you can outsource the
task. The same holds true for the maintenance and update of your site,
you must either perform these tasks yourself or farm them out.
Finally, you must
give sufficient thought and resources to advertising and promoting your
site, including both the pre-launch period and the ongoing life cycle
of the site, |
